It’s all better in community — that is, community that has decided to come together and be totally cool with your shit with you, wants you to share, and is sharing reciprocally. Damn a heirarchy. We building skills here.
I suggest to everyone reading this (a consistent 300 of you give or take) that you write with your friends. I playfully plead with you to do personal development work with your friends.
Pull up a blanket and a cup of tea. Add a notebook and a pen. Pick a prompt to write about, or bring your own. Set that bloody timer and write thoughtfully in the same room, then listen as you both read. Share those thoughtful thoughts. Struggle to read your own handwriting, even though you just wrote it. Personally, I recommend that at least the first 4x you do this that you do not discuss what you read further but instead simply say, “thank you,” at the end. Give it a second to soak in and germinate that sharing isn’t biting you in the fucking ass for like a month or two, and you both need time to get used to such honesty from each other. Hug for 15 seconds at the end.
