Ghost Story First Aid Kit
Some shaman reminders for your day
Tonight, in the dark, a woman told me the story of an abusive relationship she could not seem to quit for good until a ghost intervened. “It might have been the Devil,” she said, uncertain.
The physical beatings were a clear enough message to go, but she asked God to please give her a clear sign anyway.
She was just drying off after a shower, praying fervently, when she decided to look at some of the security tape footage they had from an outdoor camera, something she never did. She said they had oodles and oodles of video; it was the type to go on and record any time there was any motion sensed near the garage.
In her words - she “randomly” selected a time and date to play and Lord have mercy a voice clearly said on the recording “You need to leave.” [Chills, I had immediate chills when she quoted it]
She still wasn’t sure, so she asked a friend to watch the tape without telling her anything about it ahead of time, and the friend emerged looking chilled herself and reporting the exact same thing.
There was no shape or form in the video. Only a voice telling her exactly what she had asked God to give her a sign for, mere minutes after she asked for it.
When she told me her concerns and a few other stories about this voice occurring around that house, including a story that someone decided they had a portal in the yard, (I find doubtful - people just don’t realize spirits are everywhere, waiting to help and be helped), I felt my own go-ahead to teach her a little about spirits and how to help them.
She said it felt like this one had been abused themselves and was trapped in a cage, trying to warn her of the signs. This makes sense. Often spirits that haven’t been washed in the light/God’s love get stuck here recycling the same problems they died wrestling with, and will attach to humans with the same issues with the good intention of helping them.
Remember:
Ghosts are real, but being afraid of them is extremely unhelpful.
Ask if they are from Love, or the light. There isn’t lying in their world, but they may not have capital-T Truth at their disposal if they haven’t crossed over yet. Mortals like us can help them discover new information. Once they enter the light, they represent Love, which could be a synonym for God but that depends on who you ask. Asking if they’re from God doesn’t work because everything is from God even if they’re still "in sin” or haven’t crossed yet or whatever framing works for your consideration.
You may ask for a name.
You may perceive them through any combination or singular use of sound/words, images, or sensations in your body. I think everyone is capable of all three but you’ll have your predispositions too.
Once they cross over, they feel so much better, and you can ask them anything you want. I recommend asking them how they feel, how they feel about what they were doing here on Earth, and what they want to help you with.
After a few more parts of the story I asked her if she wanted to help it cross. This was a semi-casual after-hours conversation and she didn’t know I do this stuff or anything. She said yes, and to her surprise I told her that she could do it right now. No Ghostbusters or Catholic crosses or holy water necessary.
This one was beyond simple -
Me: “Bring up a memory around the spirit and tell me what you see, hear, or feel to connect with it.”
C: “Ok I see the old house.”
Me: “Ask the spirit if it has crossed over yet. What does it say?”
C: “No.”
Me: “Ask if it would like to.”
C: “Yes.”
Me: “Ask if it would like your help.”
C: “Yes.”
Me: “Are you comfortable imagining a light and imagining taking it through it? Go ahead then.”
I added a few of the details and ideas listed out above, and she learned that Heather wanted to help her see things clearly now that she was in the light. Heather-the-spirit felt relieved and happier to have crossed.
When you have interactions with spirits that seem anything but overtly loving, remember to ask if they’re from the light, and then take them over. Spirit interactions that haven’t crossed will feel slightly unsettling and agitating, a little sad and sandpapery. The agitation is an indication of how they haven’t completed the journey home. Enlist the help of angels, ancestors, or guides if you feel uncertain, telling them to take the spirit to the light. You can do much more conversation if you wish, but it’s often not necessary. Plus it’s more helpful to spend the time interviewing once they’ve crossed over. Verify that they have by asking them to tell you what they see and how they feel now that they’re in the light.

I believe that everyone has a ghost story. Try this: if you think about yours, notice what you see/feel/hear, then follow the tips I laid out here. Help a ghost cross over today. Make the world a more loving place.
