Limping Around the Grocery Store
Twofold storylines here:
(I hate my job now.) —> and it still gives me a view into how a lot of people are doing.
I can’t believe how many people I see limping around the grocery store, hanging onto their cart as if they’d fall over if they weren’t supported by it, rocking back and forth heavily while swinging half their body forward in order to take a step.
I have been learning through my own limp around the grocery store, because JFC walking 8 miles a day on hard, flat surfaces isn’t great either.
About number 1: While most people might get hung up on people limping because they slooooww traffic down the grocery aisles, I, of course, start thinking about what is going on in their bodies, what I see, and what I know would help them.
Because while I’m so f*ckin stuck on all the meaning (I’m making fun of myself here guys) behind everything on a psycho-spiritual level, the truth is that bodies also just need to move, and movement can also help the psycho-spiritual level anyway.
They need to move because it squishes fluid through the area, stimulates nerves, and opens up more freedom for the person as a result.
When the body has access that feels safe across more joints it can solve problems more effectively and with less pain than when there aren’t many places that feel good moving.
People that limp down grocery aisles tend to use very tired back muscles to swing their leg forward while their hip muscles barely help.
It’s indeed possible that if asked to, someone in this state would barely be able to lift their leg using their hip muscles. This can be due to weakness, lack of use, lack of awareness on how to do that, or other things.
But you don’t have to move much to start making a difference. If your hip muscles still exist (and they do, unless they were surgically removed) they can be taught to work better. If you can simply twist your leg back and forth, you can start to make improvements to the way your hips function and your back feels.
Anyway, considering that I’ve been a little static lately I’m going to start addressing more refined attention toward these basic mobility concepts that can help restore freedom in a body again.
My more psychological and spiritual or non-mobility ideas will still be sent to the paid subscribers to my Substack w/people I am sure want to hear them.
If you’re down for that, I hope you stick around.
