You had me at 'from scratch' and 'we don't have a tv'. I live in Eugene, OR (a couple hours south of Portland). I walk the neighborhoods, especially the alleyways, and come home every day loaded with gleaned fruit and veg. Grape vines cascading over fences; laden branches of fruit; community gardens run by volunteers, for anyone to snack from. It's amazing. I love your blog and writing. I could comment on every single post but that could get creepy and/or tiresome lol. (also I grew up in San Diego, during the mid-70s and early 80s, so a very warm-soft spot in my heart; I'm glad you found your people there)

I see we share following Eisenstein, though I admit I don't often catch up on his things. He's a beacon of light it's nice to know is there. He recently talked about getting to fight at a Sacred Sons event; I was so happy for him for rounding out some of his manly experience.

I just saw this comment from you, Sam! Yeah, I really appreciate Eisenstein. I read a lot of his stuff for a couple of years and still cruise him now and then. He remains in my emo-mental milieu as someone I consider a pretty full-bodied embodied being. I like reading about your happy for him-ness re: Sacred Sons.

My best friend lives somewhere in Oregon that sounds like that - there are so many community events and small-town things happening. I am so down for kindred spirits and easy friendships, please comment whenever it strikes you, even if it's to argue ;) if that happens someday. It's often lonely writing to the abyss without many responders. I have picked giant lemons and fallen blood oranges from neighbors' yards here in San Diego. Back east I did have more mulberry trees though.

Gleaners, foragers, and urban lightweights unite! I know of one mulberry tree here. It was saved from being mowed down by the University of Oregon 'land development' unit. They're delicious!! That's awesome, gleaning citrus. I'm currently in the midst of fall madness: apples, plums, pears, rosehips, and hazelnuts! SALUT :)
